Cycling Holidays in the Chiemgau

This cycling holiday in the Chiemgau region begins and ends in the Mozart city of Salzburg and allows you to experience the Upper Bavarian Alpine foothills on your bike. You cycle along Lake Chiemsee and follow the Inn and Saalach rivers in the Austrian Tyrol and Berchtesgadener Land. Enjoy Bavarian cuisine and the Bavarian way of life. For this tour you should have a basic level of fitness.

Day 1 Arrival in Salzburg
You will be charmed by this magnificent festival city and former residence of the prince-bishopric.

Day 2 Salzburg - Traunstein region, 65-70 km / 40-43 mi
Cycle along the Salzach River to Oberndorf, home to the famous Silent Night Chapel. Continue along Lake Waging, the warmest lake in Upper Bavaria, before reaching the picturesque salt mining town of Traunstein. 

Day 3 Traunstein region - Wasserburg, 50-65 km / 31-40 mi
In Gstadt, you can take a boat trip to Herreninsel or Fraueninsel on Lake Chiemsee. You then cycle through the gently rolling countryside to Wasserburg am Inn.

Day 4 Wasserburg - Kufstein, approx. 65 km / 40 mi
Rosenheim is the first stop, with its beautiful town houses and changing exhibitions in the “AZ Lokschuppen.” Then cycle on to Kufstein in Austria, dominated by its imposing fortress.

Day 5 Kufstein - St. Johann, approx. 50 km / 31 mi
Tirol erwartet Sie mit dem idyllischen Walchsee zu Füßen des Kaisergebirges, bevor es in die Barockstadt St. Johann geht.

Day 6 St. Johann - Bad Reichenhall region, approx. 55 km / 34 mi
Cycling along the Saalach river, you pass through Pinzgau to the ancient salt town of Bad Reichenhall, which was completely destroyed by fire in 1834. The Alte Saline complex is well worth seeing.

Day 7 Bad Reichenhall region - Salzburg, approx. 50 km / 31 mi
Via Berchtesgaden, towered over by the Watzmann massif, you will travel to Hellbrunn Palace, which has been entertaining visitors with its water features for 400 years. You will then cycle back to Salzburg on easy trails.

Day 8 Departure or extension
