Bike tour in the Altmuehl Valley

This tour takes you through the idyllic Altmuehltal Nature Park. Charming little villages, views of the dry grassland slopes with their juniper bushes that are typical of the Altmuehl Valley, the romantic Anlaunertal valley as well as the witnesses of the past that are still visible today, castle ruins, prehistoric fortifications and the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Roman Limes", make your bike tour a special experience. A secret favourite for all those who enjoy cycling through nature. You should have a good level of fitness, therefore tour in the Altmuehl Valley is not suitable for small children.

Day 1 Arrival in Kinding
The picturesque town of Kinding welcomes you with warm hospitality and cosiness. It is worth taking a trip to the Rumburg ruins.

Day 2 Kinding - Wettelsheim, approx. 55 km / 34 mi
Through the valley of the Anlauter you reach high up the impressive medieval town of Weißenburg. In Wettelsheim you have reached the Altmuehl river again.

Day 3 Trip to the Lake Altmuehlsee, 55-70 km / 34-43 mi
Through the western Altmuehl valley, you will head to the Lake Altmuehlsee today. On the way, it is worth stopping in the Roman-influenced town of Gunzenhausen, the only Bavarian town that lies directly on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Limes.

Day 4 Wettelsheim - Eichstätt, approx. 50 km / 31 mi
Slowly the Altmuehl valley becomes deeper, the rocks emerge, castles impress from the heights. The baroque bishop's town of Eichstätt is charming.

Day 5 Eichstätt - Kinding, approx. 35 km / 22 mi
You cycle along the many meanders of the river, the slopes are overgrown with juniper heath. The Altmuehl accompanies you back to Kinding, where you can end the evening relaxing in the beer garden.

Day 6 Return or Extension
The tour ends after breakfast. If you like, extend your bike tour in the Altmuehl Valley.

The booking process

Arrival to the "Bike tour in the Altmuehl Valley":

  By train, every half an hour, duration approx. 2,25 hours, 1-2 changes, normal fee approx 29 €

• Pre-booked rental bikes are ready for you in your hotel.
