Cycle Tour Chiemgau & Rupertiwinkel

This tour will take you all the way to Bavaria’s south-eastern corner, between Chiemsee and Altötting and Wasserburg on the Inn and Burhausen on Salzach. A picturesque landscape full of castles and lakes, churches and monasteries and completely enclosed cityscapes awaits in the typical Inn-Salzach style. The cycling tour around the Chiemsee and Rupertiwinkel follows the Benedikt bike path and is suitable for expert cyclists and novices alike.

Day 1 Arrival in Wasserburg
The tour will commence in the town of Wasserburg, which came to riches through the salt trade and sits beautifully atop a peninsula in the river Inn.

Day 2 Wasserburg - Mühldorf, approx. 50 km / 31 mi
Cycling alongside the river Inn - clearly discernible as an Alpine river through its turquoise colour. Mühldorf has a lovely historic centre in the Inn-Salzach style.

Day 3 Mühldorf - Burghausen, approx. 50 km / 31 mi
First you’ll be cycling to Altöttting, a Carolingian royal palace und significant pilgrimage site. Afterwards, you’ll be riding to Europe’s largest castle complex.

Day 4 Burghausen - Waging am See, approx. 45 km / 28 mi
Why not stroll through the ancient Herzogsburg castle before riding onwards to Tittmoning, a border fortress and summer residence. Today’s final destination is the the Waginger See lake, with ample opportunities for swimming.

Day 5 Waging am See - Chiemsee/environs, 30 km / 19 mi
The salt town of Traunstein picturesquely sits in front of the Chiemgau Alps. The Chiemsee is a popular leisure destination offering many activities.

Day 6 Chiemsee - Wasserburg, approx. 65 km / 40 mi
Why not go on a day trip to the Herren- or Fraueninsel (Gents’ and Ladies’ islands), after which you can cycle back to Wasserburg. We’d recommend checking out the Oldtimer museum in Amerang, which is home to 220 classic cars.
